Coventry City Council is the governing local authority for Coventry in the West Midlands, responsible for delivering a wide range of essential public services across the metropolitan borough. These include education, adult and children’s social care, housing, environmental services, waste management, transport planning, regeneration, and community wellbeing initiatives.

From 28 July to 8 August 2022, Coventry hosted Judo, Wrestling and Rugby Sevens events for the Commonwealth Games at Coventry Arena. To reinforce the city’s presence within the Games, the council commissioned a large-scale temporary building wrap and hoarding installation on the city’s former IKEA building, a highly prominent landmark located in the heart of Coventry.
The building, which also served as the base for the Coventry City of Culture Trust team during 2022, was selected for a bold transformation. The aim was to create a striking visual centrepiece that would welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors and generate community pride throughout the three-week event.
Upon receiving the final artwork and dimensions, production, print, and installation were completed within just four days, ensuring the project was delivered on time and to exceptional quality standards.
Despite the project’s considerable scale, building vinyl wraps were precision-manufactured to deliver a high-quality, consistent finish throughout.
Weather-resistant materials ensured the outdoor graphics remained sharp, vibrant and visually impactful throughout the event, whatever the conditions.
High-resolution printing produced crisp, vibrant graphics, ensuring the large-scale artwork delivered maximum impact across the building.
Specialist access equipment was utilised by the Graphic Signs team to safely and efficiently install large-format graphics within a busy city-centre environment.
From artwork receipt through to final installation, Graphic Signs provided effective project management, ensuring the programme stayed on track.

Prominent landmark transformed into a city-wide promotional asset
Successfully supported Coventry’s role as a Commonwealth Games host city
This project demonstrated how large-format vinyl building graphics can rapidly transform urban spaces into powerful promotional platforms. With the right production expertise, even tight deadlines and complex installations can be delivered efficiently and safely. Large-scale temporary branding not only enhances event visibility but also strengthens civic pride and community engagement during major global events.
